Myanmar: Deadly airstrike damages maternity ward in Mrauk-U, Rakhine State

04 Nov 20262 Read Time

A deadly airstrike damages a maternity ward in Mrauk-U, Rakhine State, Myanmar, killing five people, including a newborn. Paul Brockmann, Médecins Sans Frontières Operations Manager, provides an update on the situation.

“We are horrified by Sunday’s airstrike, which damaged the temporary maternity ward in Mrauk-U.

We have received reports that five civilians — including a newborn — were killed in the bombing, with more wounded. The death of the newborn is especially heartbreaking and underscores the utterly unacceptable toll these attacks take on the most vulnerable.

Hospitals and patients must never be put at such risk.  This attack follows a previous deadly strike on the Mrauk-U hospital in December 2025.

Enough is enough. Even war has rules: children, civilians and healthcare workers throughout conflict-affected Rakhine need protection and services, not repeated attacks.”
