02 May 20212 Read Time
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a new coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2 and has spread globally.

MSF has opened new projects in response to COVID-19 pandemic and adapting our regular medical programmes to help cope with patient care if an outbreak occur in the communities where we work.

We are very concerned on how this pandemic is affecting people in countries with already fragile health systems and vulnerable communities worldwide. On any given day, our staff treats tens of thousands of patients for a variety of illnesses in our medical programmes around the world. We want to ensure continuous care for all patients where we work today, and that our medical teams are prepared in our projects for what may come.

“As a community, we all have a role to play of amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Accurate, reliable information about the disease and awareness of preventive measures are vital when panic and fear are overwhelming individuals and communities. As we have seen first-hand in Hong Kong, community education is crucial during the course of our response since end of January.”

- Gert Verdonck, MSF emergency coordinator
