Senior Philanthropy Officer

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international humanitarian organization that provides impartial medical care to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from health care in over 70 countries. Job Purpose​

  • Lead in the expansion and cultivation of high net-worth donors’ network.
  • Provide high quality stewardship, engagement and communications to develop and maintain loyalty of major donors, aiming to achieve fundraising target and increase contribution and trust.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities​

Major Gift Fundraising Programmes’ Strategic Planning & Implementation
  • Support the Philanthropy Manager to develop and implement Major Gift Fundraising and Engagement Strategic Plan; and support annual budget planning and management of the income and expense in order to support the MSF operational needs.
  • Co-manage top level one-to-one donors in major gift donor pool. 
  • Provide donor care and solicit funding from individual, corporate and foundation major donors through direct mails, proposals, emails, phone calls, meetings and reports as per the major gifts programme.
  • Solicit high net-worth support including donations contributions, event sponsorship,  matching gifts as well as support donor’ initiated fundraising events all follow-up.
  • Organize and facilitate philanthropy talks and represent MSF in public speaking platforms.
  • Help manage and update major donor records in MSF-HK donor database and assist with ongoing major donor income monitoring. Assist CRM enhancement and website development that cater the targeted donors.
  • Research, identify and solicit support from potential donors, and to network to identify prospective donors.
  • Provide professional Chinese & English copywriting and translation.
Corporate Programme Development 
  • Support the development and implementation of corporate programme strategies that maximize corporate giving potential through effective promotion, engagement and lead generation tactics.
  • Responsible for awareness raising of the MSF corporate programmes to potential segments and to engage with relevant sectors.
  • Prepare proposals, reports, agreements or any documents required to actualize corporate donations. 
  • Provide guidance and support to the philanthropy officer in executing diverse fundraising initiatives, including securing event sponsorships and managing workplace giving platforms.
Governance and due diligence
  • Ensure the donation received in compliance with the guidelines and policies of MSF, audit requirement of MSF-HK, as well as the legal requirements of Hong Kong.
  • Manage donations to ensure they are complied with MSF HK’s Gift Acceptance Policy and donation does not originate from MSF blacklisted industry or sanctions list.
  • Perform the due diligence process on major donations to assess for reputational risk including desktop research and use of risk assessment and intelligence platforms such as Dow Jones Risk Centre.
Team management and Training
  • Act on behalf in the absence of the Philanthropy Manager when required: manage the major gifts programme, and support and supervise officers and assistants as requested by the Philanthropy Manager.
  • Administer training on donor relationship management.
Cross departmental and third-party provider project management
  • To participate in office working groups of fundraising events, e.g. Orienteering Competition and MSF Day, when the Regional Philanthropy Manager sees fit.
  • To participate in relevant working groups in the MSF movement (Major Donor, Corporate and Prospect Research Working Groups) for knowledge sharing as the Philanthropy Manager sees fit.
  • To liaise directly with the Operation Centre desks to attain timely field data and information for use in donor pitching and to report back to desk on the status of cultivation.
  • To engage and manage external third-party providers such as telemarking agency support to execute programmes.

 

 

The Ideal Candidate ​

  • University graduate
  • Have a minimum 3 years’ experience in one-to-one sales, investors’ relations,  luxury marketing or fundraising
  • Evidence of strong interest in humanitarian affairs and a commitment to the aims and values of Médecins Sans Frontières
  • Ability to delegate tasks, coach and manage junior staff members.
  • Excellent command of English and Chinese/Cantonese (both written and spoken). Proficient in Mandarin Chinese.
  • Excellent presentation skills with proven experience of public speaking or one to one pitching
  • Strong experience networking and public speaking
  • Ability to contribute to strategic planning and budget setting
  • Strong ability to manage multiple ongoing projects with a proven track record of meeting deadlines and targets.
  • Strong customer service and relationship management experience
  • Be a team player with strong interpersonal skills, be able to multi-task, and be willing to assist with tasks outside direct job description. 
  • Proven experience in events planning
  • IT skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, able to source and incorporate other new IT applications  
  • Be willing to occasionally work during weekends or public holidays for special events. 
  • Work experience in NGO, humanitarian/ aid agency, or participate in volunteering work is preferable

MSF Hong Kong will offer a remuneration package of 12 months basic salary benchmarked in INGO with no discretionary bonus.
