Director of Fundraising
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international humanitarian organization that provides impartial medical care to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from health care in over 70 countries. Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Define, develop, execute and evaluate Fundraising strategic plans and approaches in Hong Kong with the objective to support the operational needs.
- Contribute to shaping the strategic direction of MSF-HK, participating in the development and carrying out organization-wide goals and objectives, formulating policies, and decision-making having an organization-wide impact.
- Ensure the alignment with the MSF Movement’s long-term vision and strategies, developing multi-year fundraising strategies (both acquisition and cultivation) that will ensure diversified, predictable, secure and cost-efficient revenues.
- Lead the fundraising team in translating strategies into annual action plans and budgets.
- Set up key performance indicators to monitor the status of implementation (financial and non-financial); analyses and evaluates activities, targets, results, expenditures and revises fundraising strategies, plans and policies as and when necessary.
- Manage risks and opportunities by proactively ensuring risks are identified and mitigated as early as possible; and opportunities are assessed systematically and seized.
- Work closely with the Communications teams to ensure all external communications relating to Fundraising are developed to appropriately reflect the reality of MSF operations and in compliance with the communication ethics of MSF.
- Collaborate with the Communications and Partnership teams in formulating and implementing Stakeholder Engagement strategies that are conducive to gathering support from existing and potential donors.
- Supervise and monitor the Donor Service Unit and ensure donation management processes are following guidelines and policies of MSF, audit requirements of MSF-HK.
- Oversee the management and strategic use of the organization’s data analytics and CRM system to drive donor engagement, retention, and revenue growth.
- Responsible for financial management for donation income and fundraising investment/ expenses.
- Recruit, lead, manage, develop, support, and coach staff of the Fundraising Department; assesses team resources and potentials and identifies HR skills, expertise and structures needed to sustain the development of fundraising activities.
The Ideal Candidate
- Bachelor degree or master’s degree in business management, administration, marketing or communication.
- Commitment to the aims and values of Medecins Sans Frontieres.
- 15 years’ working experience or more, of which at least 8 years at supervisory level; strategic thinking and substantial experience in contributing to an organization’s strategy; and developed leadership, management and team building skills, including experience in managing large teams.
- Solid experience in marketing or business development, with a proven track record in planning & management against budget, timescale and deadlines, and management of CRM systems and data analytics.
- Considerable experience in marketing or business development, with a proven track record in planning & management against budget, timescale and deadlines, and management of CRM systems.
- Considerable knowledge and understanding of Hong Kong charity fundraising market; Asian regional experience will be an asset.
- Experience working with major donors and major pledge solicitation is an asset.
- Proven ability to demonstrate critical thinking, analytical skills, creativity, entrepreneurial spirit and leadership in achieving desired outcomes.
- Ability to deliver speeches to high profile audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with great autonomy and under tight deadlines and pressure.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally, including to MSF field projects.
- Excellent command of written and spoken Chinese and English is mandatory; Mandarin/Putonghua is an asset.
- Experience working for a humanitarian organization or international NGO is desirable. Charitable fundraising experience is preferred.
- Based in Hong Kong with occasional travels for meetings and field visits.
