Burns and Reconstructive Surgeon

MSF works with qualified, professional, and committed surgical teams to provide high-quality care to patients. Our surgical programs deliver standardized medical services—including clinical guidelines, hygiene protocols, technical platforms, and medical products—even in unstable or remote environments. MSF deploys appropriate international and local human resources to ensure patients receive quality care.

 

Currently, there is a growing need for Burns and Reconstructive Surgeons, especially in Afghanistan and Gaza.

 

Roles of the Burns and Reconstructive Surgeon:

 

  • Conduct pre-operative consultations, assess surgical risks with anesthesiologists, and obtain signed surgical consent from patients.
  • Perform emergency and scheduled surgeries.
  • Provide post-operative clinical care and ward rounds (in collaboration with anesthesiologists, operating room nurses, and ward staff).
  • Implement MSF’s clinical policies, tools, guidelines, and protocols.
  • Organize and conduct hospital emergency disaster response drills.
  • Manage, train, and supervise the surgical team.

 

 

Requirements

  • Licensed and registered Burns and Reconstructive Surgeon at Specialist level or above.
  • Technically proficient and able to teach the following procedures:
    1. Burns management
    2. Skin grafting
    3. Treatment of burn scar contractures
    4. Local flap surgeries (muscle and fascial flaps)
  • Holds a valid medical degree and license.
  • Able to work in resource-limited settings with flexibility and strong team coordination skills.
  • Fluent in English (B2 level) and/or French (B1 level) (spoken and written).
  • Available for assignments of at least 8–12 weeks.
  • Willing to work in unstable environments.
  • Adhere to our Behavioral Commitments and MSF Charter
